The richest man on this planet just went shopping. With 1.4 billion dollars, he acquired 9.2% of Twitter. This (not so coincidently) makes him the largest Twitter shareholder to date.
Why?
It all started with a tweet from Musk.
He asked in a poll if Twitter adheres to the principle of free speech. 70% voted “no”.
Under the poll, Musk commented:
“The consequences of this poll will be important. Please vote carefully.”
And in a later tweet, he added:
Given that Twitter serves as the de facto public town square, failing to adhere to free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy.
What should be done?
This had many people excited. Was Elon Musk thinking about building his own social media platform? Intriguing idea.
In turns out, he had different things in mind. He bought shares.
But why? Maybe to put pressure on Twitter?
